The moment we hear the name Sawar Meditation Yoga Retreat Center, a certain kind of peaceful environment naturally forms in our minds. We imagine a place where we can rejuvenate our lives — to build a healthy body, a calm mind, higher consciousness, and expand our inner spiritual potential. We often travel to different places and centers seeking such experiences, where we can stay joyfully, feel deep peace and happiness, and learn something valuable to move forward in life.
Yes, to turn this very imagination into reality, Sawar Meditation Yoga Center has established a retreat center in a truly serene and natural environment. From here, you can experience a new level of awareness, joy, and wisdom in your life.
This spiritual yoga and meditation center is located at Lamatar Heights, near Lakuri Bhanjyang, at the top of a beautiful hill in Lalitpur district within the Kathmandu Valley. Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters and surrounded by the Lakuri Bhanjyang forest, the location offers breathtaking natural beauty. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley along with distant Himalayan ranges. The nighttime view feels nothing less than heavenly. During winter, the area even experiences snowfall, making the climate slightly cold, while in summer, mornings and evenings remain pleasantly cool.
The retreat center is about 20 kilometers from Thamel, a popular tourist hub in Kathmandu, and can be reached within an hour by car. The road is fully paved up to Lubhu Lamatar bus stop, followed by a 10-minute gravel road. By private vehicle or bike, it takes around 50 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. Public transportation is also available, including Sajha buses from Jamal that reach nearby stops. From the bus stop, a scenic 45-minute hike will take you to the retreat center.
At this meditation and yoga retreat, we offer only authentic and traditional practices such as Hatha Yoga, meditation, mantra sadhana, fire rituals (havan), and sound healing techniques including Himalayan singing bowls. We also provide internationally certified 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training courses. Additionally, we offer professional courses in Traditional Hatha Yoga from Level 1 to Level 3, as well as deeper spiritual practices extending to advanced levels. Our programs also include Mantra Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Silence Meditation, and other spiritual disciplines for those seeking a deeper journey.
You can already sense the beauty of the place through photos, but once you arrive at our center, you will truly experience a sense of divine bliss — a feeling beyond ordinary happiness. It is neither too hot nor too cold, maintaining a moderate climate throughout the year, although mornings and evenings can be chilly during winter, so warm clothing is recommended.
Another important aspect is our focus on healthy and nourishing food. The quality of food directly impacts our physical health, mental clarity, and overall consciousness. Only with a healthy body, mind, and awareness can meditation and yoga practices be truly successful. We use locally grown vegetables and produce, which are pure and organic. Our kitchen and utensils are maintained with the highest standards of hygiene. Our menu is thoughtfully prepared by combining principles of ancient Ayurvedic science with modern nutritional practices.
Finally, the most important aspect is yoga and meditation itself. All our practices are based on ancient scriptures developed by sages and seers. These teachings emphasize the need for a peaceful environment, proper diet, and authentic guidance. True success in yoga comes with the right environment, healthy lifestyle, and experienced teachers. Keeping this in mind, our center provides training under highly experienced practitioners following authentic traditional methods.
You can confidently visit our center and experience this transformative journey yourself.
